SAS has announced that due to new ownership that it has intentions to leave Star Alliance and join Skyteam during 2024

What is SAS Eurobonus?

Eurobonus is SAS frequent flyer program. You can earn points on SAS and its Star Alliance partners flights. You can also earn points with SAS other partners example. hotel chains, car rental companies etc.

You can earn three different kind of points - basic points, extra points and status points

Basic points

You earn basic points on every flight operated by SAS or Wideroe and Star Alliance partners. With basic points you can earn or maintain higher membership level. These points can be used for SAS flight awards, upgrades etc.

Extra points

You earn extra points with non-airline partners and with some of the credit cards. These points does not affect to your membership status. These points can be used for SAS flight awards, upgrades etc.

Status points

Status points can be earned by using certain credit cards (example. SAS AMEX Elite). Just like basic points, status points helps you earn or maintain higher membership level. Status points can't be used for any purchases (no upgrades, no awards ticket etc.)

SAS Eurobonus tiers

SAS has four official tier levels. Lowest tier is member, which everybody starts when they join the program. Highest official tier is Diamond, however, there is one level above - Pandion - but it is only by invitation and only 1500 people will get that invitation per year.

You can also reach Eurobonus lifetime gold by renewing your gold or higher membership ten years in a row.

SAS Eurobonus benefits

As with all frequent flyer programs more you will fly with SAS and its partners more benefits you can earn.

All the tier levels are eligible for exclusive offers and discount's.

SAS Eurobonus Silver

To reach SAS Eurobonus Silver you need 20 000 basic/status points or 10 flights.

Baggage

Eurobonus Silver tier level gives you one extra checked bag for free when traveling with SAS or Wideroe. However, this is benefit is not valid when you have booked SAS Go light ticket.

Airport services

When traveling with SAS or Wideroe, you can use priority check-in.

Flights

When you are booking regular ticket with points, you will receive 5% discount.

When bidding for an upgrade for SAS Plus or SAS Business you bid is worth 10% more.

Membership

You also receive 10% more basic points when flying with SAS or Wideroe.

SAS Eurobonus Gold

To reach SAS Eurobonus Gold you need 45 000 basic/status points or 45 flights.

Gold tier level members also have priority customer service.

Baggage

Eurobonus Gold tier level gives you two extra checked bag for free when traveling with SAS or Wideroe. However, this is not valid when you booked SAS Go light ticket. You can take one carry-on for free when you booked SAS Go light ticket.

Also when traveling with Star Alliance partners you can take one extra checked bag.

Airport services

When traveling with SAS or Wideroe, you can use priority check-in. This benefit is also valid when flying with Star Alliance partners.

When traveling with SAS or Wideroe you can use SAS fast track and you can take up to four family members with you or one friend in Scandinavia. You can also use fast track when traveling with Star Alliance partners.

You have free access to SAS lounges when flying with SAS and Wideroe. You can bring in one friend or four family members. You can also use lounge on arrival when flying to/from Asia or North America. You can also use Star Alliance lounges when traveling with Star Alliance partners or if SAS lounge is not available.

Flights

You can book your seat for free when traveling with SAS Go ticket. You will also receive priority boarding. You also receive free WIFI when traveling with SAS.

When you are booking regular ticket with points, you will receive 10% discount.

When bidding for an upgrade for SAS Plus or SAS Business you bid is worth 20% more.

Membership

You also receive 25% more basic points when flying with SAS or Wideroe.

You can also give away one a Silver membership to a friend or family member.

SAS Eurobonus Diamond

To reach SAS Eurobonus Diamond you need basic/status points or 90 flights.

Diamond tier level members also have priority customer service. This service includes also callback service.

Eurobonus Diamond tier level gives you two extra checked bag for free when traveling with SAS or Wideroe. However, this is not valid when you booked SAS Go light ticket. You can take one carry-on for free when you booked SAS Go light ticket.

Also when traveling with Star Alliance partners you can take one extra checked bag.

Summary

SAS Eurobonus is decent frequent flyer program. It is relatively easy to earn Eurobonus gold tier level and as SAS is part of Star Alliance it has huge network, where you can enjoy your benefits. I am missing though easier way to upgrade to higher travel class. That could be upgrade certificates or something similar.
